Dancing is one of the best forms of exercise and social contact there is.  Dancers live longer (and have more to live for).  Many (most?) of us living here at Village at Deaton Creek have either danced when we were younger, or have long desired to dance.  Waltz Adventure provides the opportunity for all of us to dance, whether we already know how, or want to learn.

The Waltz – over 200 years old – is one of the most enduringly popular dances the world over.  Dancers find its ¾ time melodies captivating.  In recent years a dozen groups – like Waltz Adventure – have formed for “social” waltzing, where dancers do all manner of waltz forms: Viennese, folk, country, ballroom, Crosstep, rotary, vintage, sequence dances, and mixers.

We will explore a variety of waltz steps, both old and new.  We dance to music slow, medium and fast, and from many different sources: classical, folk, popular, opera, foreign, brass band, symphony orchestra, and solo instruments.  And then we will do a few other dances as well, according to the desires of the dancers, such as swing, polka, cha cha, rhumba, foxtrot, and many others.

There is no charge, and all are welcome to participate.  We change partners often, so you won’t need your own partner.  We are all learning, so if you don’t know how to dance, you’ll fit right in.  And for those who do know, we have advanced material to teach, and steps you may have never seen.

Jay Aland is the teacher and DJ.  Jay has taught many styles of waltz, and was DJ for a weekly waltz group in Atlanta for several years.  Private lessons are also available.
